Introduction
This document provides an overview of the Monitoring sample files, which are included with Microsoft® Office PerformancePoint™ Server 2007. These files will help you become familiar with the capabilities and features of PerformancePoint Monitoring Server.
The guide provides the step-by-step directions for configuring and deploying four sample dashboards. After you deploy the sample dashboards, you can explore their scorecards and reports and conduct analysis by using sample data.
Additional sample scorecards are also provided. You can view these in PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer; they do not require deployment to a dashboard.
The Monitoring Server Samples include the following files and folders:
- PDW.abf. A Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2005 Analysis Services cube file that provides the data for the dashboard. This cube requires SQL Server Enterprise or Developer edition to restore the data file.
- PPS Demo Dashboard.bswx. A Dashboard Designer workspace file that contains a sales scorecard and analytic report views that show revenue, margins, cost, and top products and sales. The dashboard also includes two filters: Products and Geography.
- Corporate Scorecard.bswx. A Dashboard Designer workspace file that contains an executive scorecard that presents targets for four key areas and an overall strategy map that shows relationships and status among the KPIs.
- PPS Planning Demo.bswx. A Dashboard Designer workspace file that contains an Income Statement scorecard that is based on the Alpine Ski House Planning data sample.
- Project REAL Dashboard.bswx. A Dashboard Designer workspace file that contains multiple pages and views that are based on Project REAL data. This workspace also includes time intelligence samples.
- Project REAL Dashboard.bbk. A ProClarity© 6.3 Briefing Book file that contains views that can be used in the Project REAL Dashboard sample.
- Sales By Category.xlsx. A Microsoft® Office Excel® 2007 workbook that can be published to Excel Services and used in the Project REAL Dashboard sample.
- Sample Scorecards Folder. Contains numerous Dashboard Designer workspace files with fixed-value scorecard samples. PPS Monitoring Sample Scorecards.doc, which is included with PerformancePoint Server, has descriptions and screenshots for each sample scorecard.
Sample application files and data are on the product CD. After you browse the product CD and locate the .msi file, run it on the computer on which you plan to install the sample data files.

Note: Because the sample scorecards are based on fixed values, not external data sources, you can open the associated .bswx file to view the scorecards. No other configuration steps are required.
Conclusion
The PerformancePoint Server Monitoring Sample Guide provides you with an overview of the kinds of dashboards and dashboard elements you can create by using Dashboard Designer. You can use these examples to design your own dashboards and dashboard elements to monitor performance in your own organization.
