SharePoint Deployment Planning Services (SDPS) is designed to help your organization plan an effective deployment that can optimize the core capabilities of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.  VTL Consulting's qualified consultants who can provide guidance and analysis for planning and deployment to help your organization realize greater return on IT investments. 

Your SDPS consultant analyzes your organizational environment and offers tools, services, and best practices that can help improve its productivity. The number of engagement days is 1, 3, 5, 10, or 15—as determined by your Software Assurance coverage.

Microsoft SharePoint Deployment Planning Services (SDPS) is a Software Assurance (SA) benefit for customers, which is a pre-defined paid service offering delivered by partners to plan an effective SharePoint deployment. This service offers customers a 1, 3, 5, 10 or 15 day deployment planning service based on their individual software assurance benefit level. Customers will work with a pre-qualified Microsoft partner to develop a customized SharePoint Portal Server deployment plan for their specific environment. SDPS helps minimize the cost of up-front partner investment and pre-sales planning and helps customers get a SharePoint deployment plan in place, opening the door for increased partner service revenue opportunity. 

SDPS is a partner and Microsoft Consulting Services delivered offering designed to help our Software Assurance (SA) customers successfully plan and deploy SharePoint. Using field proven business and technical guidance, the program provides best practices and well defined results through 1, 3, 5, 10 or 15 day deployment planning sessions. The number of Packaged Service days that a customer can receive is determined by a combination of the number of qualifying Office licenses and the number of Core CAL (Client Access License) Suites and Enterprise CAL Suites. So, no additional investment is needed by the customer to take advantage of this tremendous program.

While the length of the deployment planning engagement will be dependent on the customer’s SA benefit level, the types of services delivered as listed below will depend on the length of  the engagement:

• A Strategy Briefing defines the vision for achieving technical and business goals and is part of all engagements,
• An Architectural Design Session introduces SharePoint technologies, solutions and concepts and is added in a 3 Day engagement,
• A Deployment Planning Session covers a specific SharePoint capability in depth and is added in a 5 Day engagement, and
• A Proof of Concept demonstrates the solution in the customer’s environment and is added in a 10 and 15 day engagement.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) is a Web-based team collaboration and document management application. When you install MOSS, you get the following features:

• Team collaboration You can create Web sites to help team members share documents, synchronize calendars, stay up to date with team events, create surveys, and assign tasks.
   
• Document storage and workflow SharePoint sites can be used to store, share, and track documents, supporting rich document metadata, workflow, search, check-in and check-out, document versioning, and a recycle bin for recovering documents deleted from the site.
   
• Platform for collaboration and document management solutions MOSS is a powerful platform, providing an application programming interface (API) for building custom Web applications that include collaboration and document-management features.
   
• SharePoint Central Administration You use this Web browser interface to manage a single server or an entire server farm running MOSS.
   
• Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: The Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 search application role is an option if you are not using Office SharePoint Server 2007 query and indexing. The Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 search application role includes both the search and indexing components. These components cannot be divided. Additionally, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 search is required to provide full text search of Help. Consequently, you can consider deploying this application server role to a Office SharePoint Server 2007 farm to achieve this functionality (even if Office SharePoint Server 2007 search is deployed).
   
• Office SharePoint Server 2007: In Office SharePoint Server 2007, the index role is associated with a Shared Services Provider (SSP). The index role builds one index per SSP. One index server can be associated with multiple SSPs. However, indexes across SSPs cannot be combined. You can deploy multiple index servers to improve capacity. In this case, each index server is associated with different SSPs. Unlike the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 search role, content indexes produced by the Office SharePoint Server 2007 index role are continuously propagated to all servers that host the query role in a farm. Consequently, the output of the Office SharePoint Server 2007 index server role (that is, the index) is considered redundant if the query role is deployed to more than one server computer.
